Jina Abells Morissette Joins DHR International as Partner, Expanding Legal Practice into Canada

Calgary (May 28, 2021) – Global executive search firm DHR International is pleased to announce Jina Abells Morissette has joined the firm as Partner to expand the Legal practice group into the Canadian market. Based in Calgary, Abells Morissette will support clients across Canada in the key markets of Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

Abells Morissette joins DHR with more than 20 years of experience as a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for leading Canadian corporations. She has dedicated her career to providing exceptional, high-touch client experience that provides her significant insight into the skills needed to be successful lawyer.

Prior to DHR, Abells Morissette served as General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Cavalier Energy Inc., SilverBirch Energy Corporation and UTS Energy Corporation.  Throughout her distinguished career, she has led a variety of complex challenges, working with an executive team through periods of dramatic growth, defense against a takeover, and through the corporate sale process. In addition to her background as a corporate lawyer, Abells Morissette has experience in governance, human resources, and executive compensation.

As legal executive recruiter, Abells Morissette will use her legal expertise to help companies clarify their talent needs and recruit not just a General Counsel or senior lawyer, but a true business partner. Knowing the role so deeply, she will act as a “translator” between the client and potential candidates to ensure the best possible fit.

 “As the first Canadian member of the legal team, I am excited to opening this new market for DHR and support our partners across the country, as well as in the U.S.,” said Abells Morissette.

An active member of her community, Jina has chaired and organized many fundraising efforts. She Chairs the Board of Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of The Calgary Airport Authority.  Previously she served for ten years on the Board of Directors at Theatre Calgary including a term as Chair. In 2019 she was one of just five women who participated in the Rescue in the Rockies which raised over $600,000 for STARS Air Ambulance.

Abells Morissette has a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Regina with a major in marketing and an LLB from the University of Saskatchewan. She received the Top 40 Under 40 award from Avenue Magazine’s predecessor publication Calgary Inc. and the Top 40 Under 40 award from Lexpert Magazine a few years later.
