Christine Greybe, president of leadership consulting at DHR Global in Chicago, said she sees this tension daily. AI raises the floor on execution, she said, handling tasks such as basic analytics and first drafts. “But it also raises the bar on human judgment,” she said. “You still need an overlay of thinking — how to evaluate the output, how to interpret it, how to apply it.”
The risk lies in confusing task automation with talent strategy, she added. “Those early roles are where people learn how decisions get made. If you eliminate them, you’re left asking, ‘Who’s ready to take the next step?’ ”
