RALEIGH (February 16, 2023) – Leading talent advisory firm DHR Global is pleased to announce that Michele Counter has been promoted to Partner in the Nonprofit Practice Group.

Previously serving as Principal, Counter works with clients globally, specializing in helping nonprofit organizations find and develop leaders. Working collaboratively with DHR’s Leadership Consulting group, she also assists clients with strategy, business planning, governance and executive compensation in the nonprofit sector.

Counter has been supporting nonprofit organizations for more than 25 years in both executive search and internal talent acquisition roles. She joined DHR in 2001 and has worked alongside James Abruzzo, Managing Partner, Global Nonprofit Practice, for over 15 years.

“As colleagues, Michele and I have partnered on hundreds of searches and management consulting assignments over the last twenty-five years,” stated James Abruzzo. “Michele is a well-known and respected consultant across the nonprofit sector – from aquariums and zoos to health-related organizations, foundations, and arts and cultural organizations. Michele brings her recent talent management industry experience to her work at DHR, which is enormously helpful.”

In 2016, Counter left DHR to serve as National Director, Talent Acquisition at JDRF, a $200+ million national nonprofit. She redesigned recruitment strategies and built an internal talent acquisition team, which supported all hiring for national roles and in JDRF chapter offices across the country. Counter returned to DHR in 2021.

“I’m grateful to DHR for this opportunity and incredibly thankful for the supportive colleagues, mentors, amazing clients, and talented candidates who have taught me so much,” says Counter. “I look forward to expanding my client relationships and, in my own small way, helping nonprofits do more good in the world by recruiting and retaining visionary leaders and talented teams.”

Counter has a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Arts in arts administration from Southern Methodist University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Duke University.
